Sri Lanka and French Polynesia are both islands and key tourism attractions. A recent report by Big 7 Travel highlighted Sri Lanka as the ‘Best Island in the World for 2025’ for tourism, while it rated French Polynesia as the second best.

Sri Lanka is located in the South Asian region and just neighbors India, while Polynesia is located in the South Pacific Ocean and located in-between South America and Australia. The distance between Sri Lanka and Polynesia is around 14,543 kilometers.

Its differences do not stop there; Sri Lanka is an island located in the Indian Ocean and is around 65,410 square kilometers, while Polynesia is an island comprising 121 geographically dispersed islands and atolls stretching more than 2,000 kilometers.

What does the tourist get from both destinations?

French Polynesia:

Polynesia is famous for its luxury tourism and marine life. Flights to the island mostly come from France, the US, and New Zealand. When it comes to visas, EU citizens have easier access. It’s highly popular with the honeymooners and is known as a ‘honeymoon paradise.’

It’s a tropical marine country, warm year-round, and consists of coral reefs, lagoons, and volcanic peaks. Travel between the Islands can be done via domestic airlines, ferry services are available between certain Islands.

Sri Lanka:

Sri Lanka is an island with a rich history and diverse landscapes and cultures. Well connected globally via the BIA Airport, with visa on arrival for many countries, while a visa is given free for visitors from 40 countries.

It’s famous for its scenic beauty, beautiful beaches, scenic hilly destinations, and wildlife attractions such as several national parks. Despite being an island, the country boasts of a massive elephant population, with the Minneriya Elephant Congregation becoming world famous.

It has a tropical climate with different climatic conditions, such as dry and wet seasons; mostly the Europeans visit Sri Lanka during the “winter.’

Pricewise, Sri Lanka is one of the best destinations in the world for tourists.
