A Dolphin near Colombo Port City - Why So Special?

A Dolphin near Colombo Port City – Why So Special?

,

A Dolphin has been spotted in the swimmable lagoon at Port City, Colombo.

Environmentalists highlights this as a positive sign of a developing marine eco-system along the breakwater.

Experts says the presence of the dolphin suggests that the coastal engineering and coral growth along the 3.7 kilometer breakwater are fostering a new, thriving marine environment.

“A gentle reminder that thoughtful coastal engineering and coral growth along the breakwater are nurturing a thriving marine ecosystem,” said Morning Today on the latest sighting.

Sri Lanka has around 15 dolphin species.

Sri Lanka’s Whale and Dolphin Watching sites are mainly Mirissa in the south-west, Trincomalee in the north-east and Kalpitiya on the northwest coast.
