A brewed Tea Cup on a table

Sri Lanka Travel Insights By A Canadian Unicorn Founder

A unicorn founder and the CEO of Ela Capital, a Canadian-based operational family office, Vijay Sapps, has been highly vocal about Sri Lanka on his ‘X’ account while touring the country.

During a visit to the Udawalawe National Park in the southern part of Sri Lanka, Sapps praised the cleanliness of the public washrooms.

“Whether you’re a budget tourist or a luxury tourist, you get access to clean public washrooms in Sri Lanka,” he said on ‘X.’

Udawalawe is one of the most visited national parks in the country, situated in the deep south of Hambantota.

The park is highly popular for elephant sightings, apart from leopards and sloth bears.

The entrepreneur, who has roots in both India and Sri Lanka, is travelling across Sri Lanka with his family.

“I am now in Sri Lanka, taking my kids around to show our family roots,” he commented.

“We take pride in our Sri Lankan and Indian heritage,” added Sapps.

While enjoying one of Sri Lanka’s favorite fruits, he remarked, “Every day, every meal, any day — the real king of fruits. I will pick jackfruit over mango any day.”

Being a tropical island, Sri Lanka offers an abundance of fresh fruits throughout the year.

Mangoes and jackfruit are both delicious and widely available at supermarkets as well as roadside stalls. Hotels across the country also serve them as part of breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus.

No journey to Sri Lanka is complete without enjoying traditional local dishes such as Kiribath (milk rice), Pittu, Coconut Roti with sambal, and Rice and Curry.

Rice and Curry, Pittu with curry, and Coconut Roti with spicy sambal are among the delicious breakfast options visitors can enjoy during their stay.

Since the Scotsman James Taylor introduced tea cultivation to then Ceylon in 1867, ‘Ceylon Tea’ has become a globally renowned beverage synonymous with Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka has produced 265 million kilograms of Tea last year and tourists love to enjoy a cup of ceylon team.

Out of the total production nearly 90 percent exported.

Starting the day with a cup of Ceylon Tea is considered a must for visitors, just as it is for the locals as explained by Sapps.

Sapps also highlighted Sri Lanka’s hospitality, stating, “Come to Sri Lanka, enjoy the bliss and warmth of my people.”

He, who has built Ela Capital appears deeply connected to and inspired by his mother’s motherland.
