Sri Lanka’s top ‘Political’ Residence now ‘Rented’ for events

Events holders, now will have the chance to hire Sri Lanka’s iconic political landmark, Temple Trees for their events.

This is following the country’s top political house opened its Convention Centre for both public and business events.

This marks the first time in history that the country’s most guarded political residence has been made accessible to the public.

The initiative, announced by the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) — the national agency promoting MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism — aims to position Temple Trees as a premier venue for world-class events.

“Where history meets modern business. Temple Trees Convention Centre offers world-class facilities for your next MICE event,” the Bureau stated in a post on its official X account.

Located in the heart of Colombo, the venue offers a prime setting surrounded by five-star hotels, international-standard shopping malls, the iconic Galle Road, and key business establishments.

THE LEGACY OF TEMPLE TREES

Originally the residence of ‘Colonial Secretary’ during British era, later it became home to Sri Lanka’s first Prime Minister after independence.

Subsequently, many of the nation’s political leaders and executive presidents too took residence in this iconic building.

For decades, it stood as a center of political power and decision-making in the country, and still does so.

Opening its doors to the public marks a symbolic shift — aligning with the new government’s vision to transform significant political landmarks into accessible public spaces.

This move comes at a time when Sri Lanka’s MICE sector is experiencing steady growth, with an increasing number of international events choosing the island as their destination.

The addition of Temple Trees Convention Centre is expected to further enhance Sri Lanka’s appeal as a premier regional hub for global conferences and events.
