Sri Lanka gets Cruise Ship boost with 2300 travelers as the country braces for Ditwa Recovery , Sri Lanka saw the arrival of a Cruise Ship carrying a total of 2,300 tourists—mainly Germans—in Colombo Port just days after Cyclone Ditwah severely impacted the island nation. The visitors reached the country aboard Mein Schiff 6, the luxury cruise ship operated by TUI Cruises, on 2 December. Upon arrival, around 1,600 passengers disembarked to take part in a wide range of pre-arranged full-day and half-day excursions across the island. TUI’s local partner, Aitken Spence, facilitated these tours by deploying 72 coaches and an additional 30 small vans to accommodate the guests. The cruise ship, which sailed from Port Louis in Mauritius, first docked at the Colombo Port on 2 December before proceeding to the Hambantota Port in southern Sri Lanka on 3 December. It has now set sail towards Singapore as part of its ongoing voyage. The arrival of these 2,300 passengers has been a significant morale boost for Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, which is working tirelessly to recover after the widespread devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah. Sri Lanka has already reopened several key roads and railway lines, improving connectivity with Colombo and other regions. Hotels are operational, and key tourist attractions—including the Southern Coast, national parks, and other popular destinations—are welcoming visitors once again. However, connectivity to the country’s Central part is yet to be fully established, while Tourists still can reach the destination using alternative routes.
