Did you know about Sri Lanka’s Top ‘Water Attractions,’ or rather the ‘Waterfalls,’ don’t worry, now you will get to know them.

From the time you step into the Sri Lanka, and when you drive a few hours into the country’s central parts, you will start experiencing the magnificent waterfalls.

Here I bring a collection of such waterfalls, which are extremely worth having a look at and experiencing nature’s best creations.

November to April is the best time to view ‘waterfalls’ in Sri Lanka, as they are fuller after monsoon rains.

However, the May to September period is still beautiful, even though some waterfalls may have less water.

Lets take a look at those ‘water falls,‘ with reviews of the ones, who have witnessed and experienced those first hand.

Diyaluma Falls (Koslanda, Badulla District)

  1. Height: 220 m (720 ft) – 2nd highest in Sri Lanka, 361st in the world.
  2. Known for its natural infinity pools at the top where visitors can bathe safely.
  3. A favorite for adventure seekers and photographers.

Bambarakanda Falls (Kalupahana, Badulla District)

  1. Height: 263 m (863 ft) – highest waterfall in Sri Lanka.
  2. Surrounded by pine forests and misty hills.

Ravana Falls (Ella)

  1. Height: 82 m (269 ft).
  2. Famous for its wide cascade and connection to the Ramayana legend (Ravana’s cave is nearby).
  3. Easily accessible on the Ella–Wellawaya road.

Dunhinda Falls (Badulla)

  1. Height: 64 m (210 ft).
  2. Nicknamed the “Bridal Veil Waterfall” because of its misty spray.
  3. A short hike of about 1.5 km through forest trails leads to the view.

Aberdeen Falls (Nuwara Eliya District)

  1. Height: 98 m (322 ft).
  2. Hidden in lush greenery, named after Aberdeen in Scotland.
  3. Swimming is not recommended due to strong currents.

St. Clair’s Falls (Hatton–Talawakele)

  1. Known as the “Little Niagara of Sri Lanka.”
  2. Best viewed from the Hatton–Talawakele road.

Devon Falls (Nuwara Eliya District)

  1. Height: 97 m (318 ft).
  2. Named after a British coffee planter.
  3. Visible from the Hatton–Nuwara Eliya road, near St. Clair’s Falls.

Bopath Ella (Ratnapura)

  1. Height: 30 m (98 ft).
  2. Shaped like a Bo leaf (sacred fig leaf).
  3. Popular among local pilgrims and tourists.

Sera Ella (Matale District, Riverston)

  1. Unique feature: You can walk behind the waterfall into a small cave.

Laxapana Falls (Maskeliya, Nuwara Eliya District)

  • Height: 126 m (413 ft).
  • Connected with legends of the Sacred Tooth Relic..
