Sri Lanka is picked as one of the best places to travel in 2026 by global travel magazine Travel + Leisure.

The travel magazine advises travelers to start their Sri Lanka expedition with a visit to the northern region of the country.

It highlights hiking in the highlands of Horton Plains, exploring the estates, and engaging in water adventures in the South Coast as key features of the island’s travel package.

From Traversing the tea fields by train to spotting leopards at Yala National Park, the magazine says the country has, in total, become a ‘stand-alone destination.’

T+L says Sri Lanka’s culture is rich, which is also influenced from Portuguese, Dutch, and Burgher influences.

The luxury of sailing to and from Mirissa, exploring remote beaches and the fishing village of Kudawella adds to the adventure.

The magazine says travelers can join biking and walking tours, thus adding to the overall ‘experience’ of traveling to the Indian Ocean island.

It also did not forget to mention the eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites, which are ‘Must Sees’ for the visitors.
