The firm also plans to support Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia affected by the devastating Ditwah Cyclone. In a message shared on its official X account, Apple CEO Tim Cook stated, “Storms across Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka have devastated communities.” He added, “At Apple, we’re thinking of everyone affected, and will be donating to relief and rebuilding efforts on the ground.” Sri Lanka has recorded over 460 deaths, while 365 individuals remain missing following the widespread destruction caused by the cyclone. Houses, public buildings, bridges, roads, and railway lines across multiple districts have suffered extensive damage. Large swathes of cultivated land have been destroyed, severely impacting agriculture. Numerous animal farms were also wiped out, resulting in the loss of thousands of animals. Several factories and manufacturing facilities have been damaged or rendered inoperable. Economists estimate the total economic loss to run into several billion dollars. The devastation is a significant blow to Sri Lanka’s economy. Apple’s contribution is expected to support both immediate relief measures and long-term rebuilding initiatives, though the firm is yet to announce the ‘level’ of the support.
