Young Female Dutch Solo Hiker Rescued in Sri Lanka

A young Dutch Solo Hiker who got lost during a mountain expedition in Sri Lanka has been safely rescued by the police.

The 20-year-old, Luna Tuugat, a university student from Amsterdam, Netherlands, had been on a solo hiking trip.

She was part of a group of university students who had arrived in Sri Lanka.

Tuugat ventured on a hike in the Singimale Nature Reserve in Hatton, a mountainous region of the country.

While attempting to reach the summit, she lost her way inside the reserve and was unable to return.

After authorities were notified, a search operation was launched with the assistance of the Hatton Police.

Following an extensive search operation, the police located her sitting on a rock near the summit and safely escorted her back.

The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the area stated: “She had climbed the summit alone and reached a very difficult section of rock.”

According to local reports, the student had arrived in Hatton with several fellow students, but has gone on the hiking expedition alone.

All of them are currently studying at a university in southern Sri Lanka.

Pack a first aid kit, whistle, headlamp, and emergency shelter (e.g., a bivy sack)
