Train Services to commence between KKS and Anuradhapura of Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s Northern Train Services: What Is The Latest?

,

Sri Lanka’s Northern train services will partly resume from tomorrow, 22nd December.

Accordingly, services will operate between Kankasanturai (KKS) and Anurdhapura and vice versa.

A Train from the Deep Northern town of KKS will leave for Anuradhapura starting at 6 AM reaching Anurdharapura by 10 am.

While a Train from Anurdharpura will leave for KKS at 2.30 pm, reaching KKS at 6.53 pm.

Rail services to the Northern Province came to an abrupt halt in recent weeks following the Ditwah Cyclone.

Sri Lanka Railways has announced that passengers can book both first-class and second-class tickets for journeys in both directions.

The recent disaster rendered nearly 1,100 kilometers of railway tracks inoperable out of the country’s 1,593-kilometre rail network.

However, just weeks after the cyclone, Sri Lanka is making rapid progress in restoring its railway infrastructure.

The services between Colombo and Polonnaruwa resumed today, while services between Colombo and Trincomalee have also recommenced.

On the Main Line, rail operations are currently active between Colombo Fort and Rambukkana, as well as between Ambewela and Badulla.

The Ambewela–Badulla section became operational on 20th December, enabling tourists to once again experience the iconic Nine Arch Bridge and access the popular Ella tourist region.

Kelani Valley leading towards Avissawella is fully operational, while the Southern Track is operational up to Matara.

Sri Lanka Railways tracks were affected by over 159 landslides, 95 washouts, track subsidence, bridge and culvert damage, flooding, and fallen trees, among other challenges.
