Flights from Europe, Far East and Asia Unaffected , Flights service between Colombo and destinations in Europe, the Far East, and other Asian countries are continuing smoothly without disruption. ‘The issue is with only the flights from and too the middle east’ said a travel agent. 125 flights between Colombo and Middle Eastern destinations have been cancelled over the past three days following the attack on Iran by the United States and Israel. Authorities are currently taking steps to arrange alternative routes for passengers who were planning to travel via the Middle East, particularly through the UAE. Sri Lanka’s tourism sector is currently experiencing its peak “Winter Arrivals” season, and the latest crisis may have an impact on the country’s growing tourism industry. Thought the full extent and scale of the impact are still too early to determine. However, authorities are working to mitigate potential negative effects. Measures have already been introduced to assist stranded foreign tourists in the country. Offering of 14-day automatic visa extension and helping departing tourists secure alternative travel routes, are among them. Fuel Queues Following news of the escalating crisis in the Middle East, thousands of motorists lined up at fuel stations across the country amid fears of possible shortages. This created a huge traffic around the petrol stations, while hundreds of them were closed by Sunday evening as they ran out fuel stocks. However, authorities have assured the public that the country has sufficient fuel supplies for more than 30 days. Ceylon Petroleum Corporation on the weekend supplied additional stocks for fuel stations to meet the sudden demand. Government expect the situation to be under control by Tuesday.
