Cambridge-Oxford Mathematician expresses his ‘calculated’ look on Sri Lanka’s beauty

Dr. Tom Crawford, a renowned Mathematician affiliated with both Cambridge and Oxford Universities, was left mesmerized by the beauty of Sri Lanka.

During his visit to the country, he uses his ‘X’ account @tomrocksmaths to describe his experience in the country.

From a scenic train ride to the hill country town of Ella, to witnessing majestic elephants at the Kaudulla Park, climbing the iconic Lion’s Rock and exploring the vibrant capital Colombo, Dr. Crawford shared his amazement of Sri Lanka through a series of posts on his ‘X’ account.

Journeying to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa in the North Central Province, the mathematician was thrilled by the sight of Sri Lanka’s majestic elephants in their natural habitat.

He is all smiles after witness the Dambulla Cave Temple, another UNESCO World Heritage Site (since 1991), renowned for its centuries-old rock paintings and Buddha statues.

As a “maths geek,” he couldn’t help but wonder about the remarkable engineering behind the 5th-century AD Sigiriya Fortress, built by King Kashyapa.

Summing up his exciting tour, Dr. Crawford expressed his appreciation for Sri Lanka’s tea, waterfalls, and natural beauty” and did not forget to bring his mathematical elements into the ‘X’ post.
