JetStar Direct Flights From Melbourne – Colombo Commences , As promised earlier this year, Australian low-cost carrier Jetstar Airways touched down in Sri Lanka today. The move means, the Airlined launched its promised thrice-weekly flights between Colombo and Melbourne. The inaugural Jetstar flight from Melbourne arrived in Colombo at 5.50 pm today, where the airline was welcomed with a traditional water salute at Colombo (Katunayake) International Airport. A special ceremony was also held to mark the occasion, with Sri Lanka’s airline industry giving the aircraft a warm reception. Flight Details Jetstar will operate the Colombo–Melbourne route three times a week — on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays — using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The airline has described the service as Australia’s only low-cost direct connection to Colombo, and plans to offer 100,000 seats annually between the two cities. Rising Australian Tourism to Sri Lanka The launch comes as Australian tourism to Sri Lanka continues to trend upward, with 110,000 Australian tourists visiting the island in 2025. Beyond leisure travel, Jetstar is also expected to tap into the large Sri Lankan diaspora in Australia, who frequently travel to Sri Lanka to visit family and friends.
