Colombo – Jaffna Trains To Resume , Train Services to Jaffna from Colombo Fort will recommence from 9th April. This follows the recent suspension of train services between Colombo and Kankesanthurai (KKS) due to the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah. As a result of the cyclone, five bridges along the Northern Railway Line were severely damaged, leading to the suspension of services, along with other railway disruptions. With the resumption of services, the iconic Yal Devi, Udaya Devi, and Rajarata Manike trains will resume operations to the north. Railway authorities state that the rehabilitated tracks will also enable improved travel speeds. The Northern Railway Line is Sri Lanka’s longest route and one of the highest revenue-generating lines for Sri Lanka Railways. There are 46 railway stations between Colombo Fort and KKS. The night mail train, which departs at 8:00 PM, stops at all these stations and reaches KKS at approximately 4:30 AM. From 9th April, a train from Mount Lavinia to KKS will depart at 5:15 AM, while the return train from KKS to Mount Lavinia will depart at 1:50 PM. Train Ticket Bookings for these services are now available.
