Lonely Planet Names 25 Global Correspondents - A Sri Lankan among them!

Lonely Planet’s Correspondents For 2026 Includes a Sri Lankan!

Lonely Planet has named 25 travel correspondents for 2026, including one from Sri Lanka.

The global travel platform as a new initiative have selected its net travel correspondents network to share authentic local insights and firsthand experiences from around the world.

The correspondents, chosen by Lonely Planet’s social team, represent 20 different destinations and areas of expertise.

Among them is Sri Lankan travel storyteller Shenelle Rodrigo, who has gained recognition for promoting Sri Lanka Tourist Attractions through her social media platforms, including @sheneller.

Following her selection, Rodrigo said, “I’m a travel storyteller from Sri Lanka who uses film, research, and immersive experiences to show the world the depth, beauty, and complexity of this island.”

She added that her work focuses on shifting perceptions, elevating local voices, and encouraging meaningful conversations around culture, heritage, and sustainable tourism.

Having covering Sri Lanka from small beginnings 9 years ago to become a “Lonely Planet Correspondent, Sheneller and her team has faced numerous challenges.

But she has persisted relentlessly to become a known voice on delivering the Sri Lanka story to the global stage.

Lonely Planet described its Correspondent Network as a global collective of passionate travelers who share on-the-ground insights and personal perspectives.

“Hand-selected by our social team, each creator leads with curiosity and a passion for meaningful travel, helping others explore the world on their own terms. No gatekeeping here,” the platform further stated.

The 2026 Founding Class of Correspondents aims to expand Lonely Planet’s storytelling by moving beyond traditional travel guides.

The initiative will highlight diverse voices, culinary experiences, and unique journeys across the globe.

The selected correspondents represent countries such as Sri Lanka, England, the United States, Mexico, Canada, Argentina, Australia, Vietnam, New Zealand, and France.

Each contributor specializes in areas such as history, solo travel, couple travel, and family travel.

Lonely Planet remains one of the world’s leading travel platforms, with over 450 writers and contributors producing firsthand content.

The platform covers 211 cities and regions across 71 countries and publishes in 69 languages, making it a key resource for global travelers seeking travel and leisure information.
