Turkish Airlines expands its Colombo–Istanbul direct flights. , The Turkish Airline has enhanced its flight operations to Sri Lanka amidst the Middle East crisis. Accordingly, the airline has decided to add two more flights to its weekly schedule between Istanbul and Colombo. This was activated by the Turkish National Airlines following diplomatic discussions between the two governments. The move is aimed at helping stranded tourists, who are either waiting to arrive in Sri Lanka from European destinations or to leave back home, following their holiday here. Turkish Airlines was already operating around 10 weekly flights to Sri Lanka to cater to the winter holiday demand. Istanbul Airport is located in a strategic position, thus enabling Europeans to use the airport to connect with Asia, including Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka received over half a million European tourists during the year 2025, and the ongoing winter season too is bringing in a lot from the region.
