Is Little England’s post office the most photographed ‘post office’ in the world?

,

The over-century-old post office in ‘Little England’ of Sri Lanka—is it one of the world’s most photographed ‘post offices’ in the world?

It could be, maybe, should be!

Every morning, postal workers could be seen ‘sorting out’ letters, stacking them on bags labelled into many ‘districts’ of the country, and then loading them into buses every morning and evening to be dispatched to their respective regions.

Built in 1894 during the British colonial rule of the island nation of Sri Lanka, which is just located at the center of the Indian Ocean, the post office is the oldest functioning post office in Sri Lanka and probably one of the oldest in the world.

The building is made of a striking Tudor-style red-brick, two-story building with a clock tower—unusual architecture in Sri Lanka and very photogenic.

The iconic building is located centrally in the City of Nuwara Eliya, a city located in the highest mountainous region of the country.

It is famously known as ‘Little England,’ as the British colonial rulers established the city to rest and relax, owing to its English weather.

The post office, which is visible to every person visiting the city, is recognized as a heritage building and a protected monument and is a high attraction for every tourist visiting the region.

They come, see, photographers capture visuals, and enjoy the iconic status of the building.

Located on the Queen Elizabeth Drive, Nuwara Eliya is just situated opposite Victoria Park.

It’s open during the daylight hours, and you can visit the inner part of the building, as the ‘Post Office’ is still functioning.

If you travel to Nuwara-Eliya, visit the building, admire its architecture, take photos, and stroll around the manicured lawns.
