Ceylon Tea walks into the Guinness Hall of Fame

,

Ceylon Tea has secured a place in the Guinness Records after fetching an unprecedented price of USD 860 per kilogram.

This marks the highest price ever paid for tea.

The record-setting sale was achieved by the New Vithanakande Tea Factory of Sri Lanka, a specialty family-run producer with roots dating back to the 1940s.

The factory, located in the Sabaragamuwa province—better known for Sri Lankan diamonds—saw its premium Ceylon Black Tea sell at 125,000 Japanese yen (approximately USD 860) per kilogram in Japan.

The historic sale took place during the annual Ceylon Specialty Estate Tea Charity Auction in Japan, further spotlighting the global demand for premium Ceylon Tea.

This recognition underscores the unmatched quality of Ceylon Tea, one of the world’s finest beverages.

Tea experts says the achievement highlights Sri Lanka’s continued prominence as a global leader in tea exports.

The country produces nearly 300 million kilograms of tea annually, supplying discerning markets across the world.

The Guinness record is not only a milestone for the New Vithanakande Tea Factory but also a moment of pride for Sri Lanka’s tea industry as it strengthens its reputation for excellence and exclusivity.
