Direct flights between Zurich and Colombo from October

In a move that will bolster travelling between Switzerland and Sri Lanka, direct flights will commence between the two destinations from October.

Operated by Edelweiss, a unit of Swiss International Airlines, the airline will operate between 8 and 9 Airbus services between Zurich and Colombo, starting 28th October.

Swiss International Airlines (GS) has partnered with United Ventures, a Sri Lankan travel firm, to execute the plan.

“Flights between Zurich and Colombo can currently be booked for travel between October 2025 and May 2026,” said the airline on its website.

The move is focused on the upcoming European winter holidays.

Switzerland Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives Ambassador Siri Walt congratulated the move on her ‘X’ account.

European tourists to Sri Lanka play a major part in Sri Lanka’s tourism market, and among them the tourists from Switzerland offer a ‘high value’ segment, as they are among the European tourists who spend longer durations in the country.

In 2024 alone, Sri Lanka attracted 30,000 Swiss tourists to the country, and with the new direct flights, this number is expected to go northward.
